Hi there,

Since you don't say exactly what food or how it is to be displayed, it is
hard to make reccomendations.

I agree, that you can find great looking food at a craft store. Especially
fruit and vegetables.

As for a cake under $50, well good luck. Having made fake things before,
there is a lot of time involved. Many time it is more involved to make a fake
something than a real thing.

I would take 2 cake pans, and duct tape them together, and then 'ice' with
spackle as suggested. You can use acrylic paints to change the color of the
spackle.

You can sprinkle with sprinkles or drangees and spritz lightly with Krylon to
hold.

If you could explain more of what you are needing, maybe we could help more.

Why not change the display every few days, and eat the goodies?
