I was in New York last week specifically to see the exhibits at the
Smithsonian's Native American museum. I enjoyed the objects in the exhibits
and felt that there was more wall text than anyone person could read in a day
(if I lived in NY I'd simply go back for more visits but I live near DC).

The exhibit halls where very crowded, not just with people, the spaces did
not allow for a group to view the objects, read the text, watch the videos,
listen to the speakers (on tape & video), etc....I felt as if I was always in
someone else's way (or they where in my way). My brother said he just waited
until the other person moved and then took his turn. Being 5'10'' I usually
look over peoples shoulders (then again Mike is 6'5"), but I did find that
the video monitors where placed too low, I assume to accommodate visitors in
wheel chairs...

On the whole I enjoyed the exhibits, I particularly liked the multiple points
of view on the objects in the first exhibit, and the explanation of how
museum professionals do their jobs. It is a definite must see if you are in
NY, but go on a weekday when it might be less crowded.
