Full-Time Position Available

Exhibit Designer

The mission of The Tech Museum of Innovation is to serve as an educational
resource that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and
experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and to inspire young
people to become innovators in developing technologies of the future.

The Exhibit Designer is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the
Manager of Exhibit Design.  The position has overall responsibility
for the visual and physical representation of exhibit themes, topic areas
and/or specific exhibits.  The Exhibit Designer develops 3-dimensional,
graphics, and visual elements; provides information on materials and
fabrication; and co-develops exhibits with the exhibt team so that the
exhibits are esthetically pleasing and conform to the museum's mission.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develops the 3-dimensional, graphic and visual elements of exhibit design
for specific assigned exhibit areas.
* Works closely as a team member with other exhibit designers, exhibit
developers, exhibit engineers, industry sponsors, advisory boards,
prototypers, fabricators and others in the development and fabrication of
exhibits.
* Analyzes and synthesizes information and concepts from exhibit developers
and other staff to provide design solutions for new and existing exhibits.
* Graphically and visually represents by drawings, models and
prototypes (including mechanical and electrical devices) design solutions
to exhibit development and displays.
* Prepares design documentation for fabrication of specific exhibits.
* Specifies materials and methods of fabrication to fit with budget
and time constraints.
* Ensures accessibility for challenged visitors has been considered.
* Incorporates results of visitor evaluation into design
* Manages and creates a design schedule that fits within project's
budget and time-line.
* Documents the process of exhibit designing
* Serve as museum's floor staff on assigned weekend days and holidays (7
times annually).

REQUIREMENTS:
* Degree in industrial or architectural design
* 2+ yrs. of successful experience as Exhibit Designer or Industrial Designer
* Strong skills in developing graphic and visual representations of
conceptual ideas
* Ability to produce electrical and mechanical designs, models and
drawings
* Ability to manage and oversee designs from out-of-house design firms
* Ability to communicate and work well with people of backgrounds
* Excellent presentation skills (verbal & written)
* Team player and good sense of humor
* Creative, flexible, self-motivated and results-oriented
* Exposure to project management. Experience in project management preferred
