The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has the following positions
available:  Adult Programs Coordinator/Science Instructor, Lecture
Coordinator, and Curator and Head of Ornithology. Descriptions follow.  For

Position Title: Adult Programs Coordinator/Science Instructor
FULL TIME
Department: Education Division
Reports To: Director of Education

Summary:
Develop and coordinate programs for adults and high school students, and
design educational programs related to the Museum’s goals.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess current and develop new adult education programs including non-credit
classes, field trips, and expeditions. 

Supervise Lecture Coordinator (part-time staff), responsible for the
Explorer Lecture Series and other lectures in the Museum.

Plan, coordinate, and implement the Future Scientists program that exposes
high school students to field experiences in the natural sciences.

Supervise Future Scientists Assistant (part-time staff).

Conduct gallery and classroom lessons for school groups, Museum members, and
special programs (school groups at the equivalent of 2-3 mornings per week).

Prepare annual Adult Programs budget, Future Scientists budget, Lecture
Series budget, and monthly and annual reports.

Keep abreast with scientific knowledge and Museum research activities in
areas of teaching duties.

Cooperate with other Museum divisions in exhibit planning, label writing,
and assisting with special museum-wide activities.

Willingness to work weekends in a normal work schedule and evenings when
necessary.

Performs all duties according to established Museum operating, safety, and
environmental and quality policies.

Performs other duties as assigned by Manager or Management.

Education and/or Experience:
Master’s Degree in a natural science and three-five years experience in
museum or other informal educational programs.

Knowledge of the natural history of northeastern Ohio.

Valid Ohio Drivers license. 

Physical Demands:
Position may require sitting, walking, standing, reaching including
stooping, kneeling, and crouching.  Occasional lifting and/or moving up to
25 pounds.

Ability to keep pace with active teenagers and adults on field trips.

Job Title:  Lecture Coordinator (Part-Time)
Department: Education Division
Reports To: Adult Programs Coordinator

Summary:
Develop and coordinate all lectures taking place at the Cleveland Museum of
Natural History.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and coordinate the Explorer Lecture Series.  Coordination includes
researching and contacting potential speakers, arranging transportation and
lodging for speakers, hosting speakers while they are in town.

Coordinate logistics for the Frontiers of Astronomy lecture series,
co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve University.

Coordinate logistics for Cleveland Archaeological Society lecture series.

Develop and coordinate all special lectures that occur during the course of
the year.

Education and/or Experience:
Four-year college degree
Administrative experience
Public speaking experience

POSITION TITLE: Curator and Head of Ornithology
DIVISION: Collections and Research
DEPARTMENT: Ornithology

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History invites applicants to fill the new
William and Nancy Klamm Endowed Chair of Ornithology. The successful
applicant will serve as Curator of Ornithology and Head of the new
Department of Ornithology. She or he will be responsible for the Museum’s
collection of recent avian fauna which consists of approximately 32,000
study skins and 4,000 egg sets from the Ohio region and western North
America as well as approximately 1,000 osteological specimens from Ohio. The
Curator is expected to publish original, scientific research in
peer-reviewed publications and maintain an active presence in local and
national scientific communities. The Curator will also provide service to
the Museum through assistance with exhibits, educational programs, and
public relations, as well as interact with the general public and various media.

A Ph.D. in a field relevant to Ornithology and specimen-based publications
in this discipline are required for the position. Additional experience in
public outreach in ornithology and related disciplines is also desired.
Applicants specializing in birds of the Ohio region are especially welcome;
however, applicants with geographic foci in other regions of North America
are also encouraged to apply.
