I think you are on the right track in establishing uninterrupted possession of the objects in your care.  I'm wondering, though if there are  any names and contact info associated with these objects?  If so, it would be a good idea to reach out to the owners - with deed of gift forms if the museum wishes to accession the objects, and with a request to pick up the objects if it does not. That seems like a quicker way to clarify what is in the collection and what is not.
