We are a library with an art collection that has been stored in the bowels of
the library. Once somewhat dusted off, we found we hold a few pricey tidbits,
but all need restoration (cleaning with more than a soft document brush and
less than a brillo). Have any of you educators tried to create tours while
generating funds for restoration? I am working on basics (as a former
educator I can tie in the basics of the Maine learning results) but am
working on making this a money generating proposition. Like all public
libraries, nothing is accomplished without a grant or gift. We have an art
restorer working on quotes and is offering her time as a docent and will give
demonstrations on restoration. We plan an event for October and hope to open
the doors to museum-like tours afterwards. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
