JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Assistant Curator of Anthropology - University of Colorado Museum

Under supervision of the curator of anthropology, the assistant curator is
responsible for the curation of 1.6 million ethnographic and
archaeological objects (most from the North American Southwest, the Rocky
Mountain region, and the Great Plains), as well as paper and photographic
archives in the Anthropology Section of the University of Colorado Museum.
The assistant curator (1) maintains all records related to the
collections; (2) develops, revises, and administers collection-related
policies; (3) oversees the section's curation budget; (4) supervises
volunteers in the anthropology section; (5) responds to public inquiries
regarding the collection; and (6) supervises graduate students in the
Masters of Museum and Field Studies Program, and may, depending upon
qualifications, teach in the Masters Program.

Qualifications: B.A. in anthropology required, M.A. in anthropology
preferred. Candidates are expected to have (1) demonstrated experience
with the management of archaeology and ethnology collections; (2)
knowledge of material culture; (3) familiarity with NAGPRA implementation
and consultations; (4) well developed verbal and written communication
skills; and (5) experience with computer systems and data base management
systems. Salary: in the $30,000 range for full-time fiscal year
appointment. Preferred start date: 1 July 1998.
