Bronwen,

I didn't see an email signature, so couldn't reply off-list. Although we don't offer overnights, there are several museums in the Philadelphia area that do. The Franklin Institute (Philadelphia), the Battleship New Jersey (Camden, NJ - right across the river) and the Philadelphia Zoo all have (or had) overnight camping programs for Cub Scouts. We just had our overnight last month at the Franklin with Pack 97. Feel free to email me offline if you'd like to hear about the trips. [log in to unmask]

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Overnight youth programs

List members in the mid Atlantic region:

In my other life I am involved with a Cub Scout Pack. We always plan a spring trip, but the place we chose has been slow in responding so we are looking for alternatives and I am hoping you can offer suggestions. We are looking for an overnight experience or a trip that would include access to available campgrounds (We can and have tented, but our attendance is better if we don't have to). Our boys are 6 to 12 year olds, come with a parent and sometimes younger/older siblings. On average we get between 40 and 50 on trips. It would need to be late Friday night into Saturday or Saturday into Sunday. And we are looking at May. If your site has a program that meets the BSA requirements for achievements - particularly for our Webelos, even better, but not a deal breaker. Obviously we need to think about activity, food, and sleeping arrangements. In the past we have done the USCG Tanney in Baltimore (which the boys loved). We are in central PA, so we are looking for NY, NJ, Ohio, MD, VA, DE and PA. Any suggestions you can make would be much appreciated. Please reply off list.
