Smith & Hawken - and perhaps other garden supply places - sell polished
stainless steel shovels and forks that are quite nice, with the added
benefit that they are real working garden tools. You could probably
embellish the handle and shaft and have something less expensive and just
as pretty as the silver plated variety.
