Dear Merri Pemberton,
Many Renaissance artists were trained as goldsmiths or trained by goldsmiths.
Why don't you consult a readily available survey of Renaissance art, like James
Beck, Italian Renaissance Painting, or Frederick Hartt's larger History of
Italian Renaissance Art for more background? Sandro is Alessandro. It's
Zurbaran, by the way.
