Alexandria, VA, Egypt, Louisianna, or somewhere else? I live in
Alexandria, VA and there are a TON of historic sites, most of which
are right in the "Old Town" area. Gatsby's Tavern has both a museum
and a resturant (George Washington ate there!). Right across the
street is the Carlyle House (GW visited there). Down the road is the
Ledbetter Apothocary (GW got his drugs there). In the other direction
is the Lee-Fendell House (GW knew people there) and the Lee Boyhood
Home (GW was dead by the time Lee was born.)

Many of the other resturants in the Old Town section are in historic
buildings of one sort or another. I don't think I've eaten at a bad
place in Old Town and I've lived in the area for most of my life. The
visitor's center is at the corner of King and Fairfax and is a good
starting place for things to see and do. About 8 miles down the road
is Mt. Vernon, the king of all historic sites. It's really easy to get
to if you have a car because it is a straight shot down Washington St.
which turns into the George Washington Parkway. They have a great
resturant there but it is a new construction. And of course down the
road from that is GW's grist mill, Woodlawn Plantation, and an
excellent Frank Lloyd-Wright house.
