Anita Miles asked about biodiversity museums. Well, this natural history
museum opened a new Hall of Biodiversity this past May. It is not about
regional biodiversity, but (humbly) the biodiversity of the entire planet.
The hall includes topics of evolutionary biodiversity as well as ecological
biodiversity. The premise is that the entire gorgeous array of living
organisms is in the midst of a 6th extinction of crisis proportions, and
this time it's human-caused, not the result of natural causes, as previous
extinctions were. But it's not too depressing, because there are a lot of
things being done to prevent loss of biodiversity, and we show examples. We
also suggest ways visitors can get involved.
