The Nebraska State Historical Society manages two literary museums, the
Willa Cather Historical Center in Red Cloud and the John G. Neihardt Center
in Bancroft. You will find information about these sites on the NSHS
website at www.nebraskahistory.org, as well as on the websites of the Willa
Cather Foundation (www.willacather.org) and the John G. Neihardt Foundation
(www.neihardtcenter.org).

You might want to check your library or bookstore for books such as
Traveling Literary America: A Complete Guide to Literary Landmarks by B.J.
Welborn and The Ideals Guide to Literary Places in the U.S. by Michelle
Prater Burke. I've not read these, but I am familiar with three older
publications: The Literary Guide to the United States (Facts on File), the
Oxford Illustrated Literary Guide to the United States, and Historic Homes
of American Authors (Preservation Press). Since these three books were
published 15 to 20 years ago, the information that they provide will not be
current. However, I think that the majority of museums listed are still in
operation and you could update information on the entries with internet
searches.

Finally, the International Council of Museums has as one of its
international committees, the International Committee for Literary Museums.
You will find contact information for this committee on ICOM's website.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] museums devoted to authors/writers

I'm trying to compile of list of museums devoted to famous writers (for
example, Mark Twain House & Museum, Steinbeck Center, etc.). Does anyone
have suggestions? Thanks!
