I lead tours at the Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht (NL) and we also
protect the (linoleum) floors by wearing these slippers that fit over the
shoes. About one in every 50 visitors asks to enter in their socks, but
most find it charming to slip these behemoth things on.

The same kind of slipper (suede sole and toe-guard, cotton upper, cinched
elastic opening) is also required at the Sonneveld House in Rotterdam and
I wonder if this isn’t uncommon at other architectural heritage sites.
