Depending on how widely you care to define "a vacationing passenger" , you
should definitely look into the travalogues of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Try
"North to the Orient", 1935, Harcourt Brace and Company, New York. I picked
up a first edition second hand, easily enough, about 5 years ago when I was
over in Vermont - howeve that may be more than a coincidence as I believe
that was where she lived in her final years...
