Supervisor of Museum Education Programs
Mystic Seaport, the Museum of America and the Sea, invites applications for
a two-year appointment in the Museum Education Dept.to provide creative
leadership of programs for adults, families, children, school and youth
groups.

An ideal background includes a B.A. in an appropriate field such as
American History, American Studies; graduate degree or coursework in museum
education, museum studies, human development is preferred. Knowledge of
maritime history/humanities is very desirable. Demonstrated achievement in
adult education and staff development is an important qualification. At
least 5 years experience in a supervisory position in museum education is
required. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent writing and speaking
skills.

This supervisor reports to the Director of Museum Education, directs 5
Program Managers and 7-12 Museum Teachers, and works cooperatively with 3
other Supervisors in the Department.

Essential functions include supervision of program managers and museum
teachers, staff training, program development and evaluation, preparation
and control of annual budget, management of programs for adult audiences,
maintaining relationships with educational and professional community, and
preparation of teaching materials. Must be Mac literate. Occasional weekend
and evening work is required.
