The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is seeking a Director of
Foundation and Government Relations.  This position reports to the Vice
President for External Affairs.

The Director is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing
fund-raising initiatives with foundation and government donors/prospects.
This senior member of the development team will be accountable for
securing both designated and operating support, stewarding and tracking
grant agreements and readying the Adler for a capital campaign.  This
position works closely with key staff members and with members of the
Adler Board of Trustees, advisory committees and volunteers in
implementing strategies.

Duties and responsibilities:

-       identify, cultivate, solicit and recognize foundation prospects and
donors
-       strategize long-term opportunities for Adler revenue from major
foundations
in the Midwest and selected national foundations
-       prepare city, state and federal grant applications to support Adler
projects
-       identify new funding sources for exhibition, education and research
priority projects
-       create and implement strategies for a portfolio of government and major
foundation
prospects in anticipation of a major capital campaign
-       assist Vice President in staffing Trustee committees for Development and
Board nominations
-       prepare and manage annual budgets and monitor quarterly income and
expense forecasts

A Bachelors Degree is required for this position with five or more years
of progressive experience in fundraising with demonstrated expertise
interacting with professional grant makers and executive level volunteers.
 A track record of achieving financial goals is essential.  An advanced
degree is preferred and experience with Chicago’s foundation leaders,
knowledge of government processes/protocol and experience in an
established fundraising operation is helpful.  This position requires
excellent writing and analytical skills with the ability to work with a
variety of people in a team environment.
