I work at a small to mid sized general museum with the usual shoestring
budget.
We use Image AXS for cataloging our collection. We are at about the 2000
mark with over 50,000 to go. The great thing about image AXS is the cost.
I've seen it advertised as "free" with the purchase of scanners and other
such hardware.

Our problems with it are (1) with the mac version, updating is not a simple
drag and drop procedure. (2) The search engine is very slow. (3) Working
with the same collection on several different computers is impossible. (4)
The Pro version for mac has been promised for well over a year and still is
not out.

Actually, I can think of many more problems but you get what you pay for.
It is perfect for a small collection housed on one computer. With ethernet
connection and appleshare I can work on the catalog from any place on
campus. If anyone has more questions about the Image ASX I will be happy
to reply.

I also have a question for the list. Does anyone use a bit higher priced
program that catalogs images and is mac and windows capable? I thought
this would be a topic filling the list archives but it seems people must
respond off list when it comes to computer catalogs. Perhaps I need to use
another term in my search.
