Young woman museum professional is seeking low budget way to attend the
Amercian Association of Museums conference in Minneapolis, May 4-8.
Would like to find someone to share a room.

It seems like we just went through this for Philly. Let's try to get
these young professionals involved in our national organizations.

I don't know if anyone (AAM?) has set up some kind of central location
to match people like this--here is what I envision...an entry or
junior level professional would like to attend but can't afford the
cost. He or she would LOVE to be paired with an experienced
professional IN THE AREA (Mpls), preferably in the same line of
work, to stay with and to network with...aka, mentoring. This
experienced professional would offer room and board to the entry or
junior level professional in the hopes of establishing a
relationship that both can rely on in the future.

I know that AAM was doing something with a mentoring program but
have really heard nothing about it--and am frightened that it may
only be for graduate students. If the above is something AAM is
working on, would someone please post information? If not, I would
be happy to set up an email address on my personal account where
both searchers and offerers may write, if people are interested.
This would be a centralized service only, I would not guarantee
that matches will be made or choose who gets to stay with whom--I
would only give out phone numbers or addresses based on people's
   stated preferences for a mentor/boarder.

I also wanted to try and get some rooms in the Mpls area at a
cheaper rate but haven't heard much on that end--Mom is a travel
agent and was going to see (when she had a spare moment) if she
could get one or two rooms in each hotel for a special rate. If
so, then I could offer those to people in dire need.--But nothing
has happened yet with that so don't bombard me with requests for
   the rooms!

If people are interested in seeing something like this set up,
please email me privately at "[log in to unmask]" or
"[log in to unmask]". If there seems to be an overwhelming
response from BOTH sides, I'll do my best to set it up. I would
like to see as many people as possible who are in a similar
situation to mine at the next meeting--if you aren't there, you
   can't be involved.
