Pre-AAM Workshops
April 23 & 24, 1994
Seattle, WA
 
        Two professional development and training workshops will be
presented by the Center for Social Design immediately prior to the annual
American Association of Museums (AAM) Conference in Seattle:
 
AN EXHIBIT EVALUATION WORKSHOP: TECHNIQUES THAT MAKE EXHIBITS WORK BETTER
 
Leaders:     Dr. Stephen Bitgood (Jacksonville State University)  and
                Harris Shettel (Museum Evaluation Consultant)
Location:   Pacific Science Center
Fee:   $150.
 
This two-day workshop will acquaint participants with front-end
evaluation, critical appraisal, and remedial evaluation techniques using
hands-on experiences with actual visitors and exhibits.  The workshop will
demonstrate the feasibility of making large gains in exhibit effectiveness
through relatively simple alterations guided by evaluation.  Handouts will
be provided to supplement activities.
 
VISITOR STUDIES, NONPROFIT MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
 
Leader:      Dr. Ross Loomis (Colorado State University)
Location:   Seattle Sheraton    Fee:     $75.
 
This one-day workshop will focus on using visitor evaluation studies to:
        % improve marketing and public relations
        % better understand and develop audiences
        % track public perceptions and attitudes
        % provide testing for products and programs
        % assess effectiveness of P.R. efforts
A workshop manual with related readings will be provided.
