Director of Development, Endowment, and Planned Giving

Under the direction of the President and Executive Director, the position is
responsible for directing the fund-raising activities of the Indianapolis
Art Center, developing and implementing both short and long-term development
plans that are consistent with the organization’s mission, values, and goals
as well as professional standards and ethics.  Serves as point person for
all endowment/capital campaign activities and the Art Center’s planned
giving program.  Ensures smooth coordination of development operations. 

Responsibilities

Committees:
·  Serves as a member of the Development Standing Committee and leads
Development Team.

·  Serves as staff liaison to the Endowment/Planned Giving Committee
and serves on other committees as needed.


Development Administration:
·  Manages development office and provides leadership to forge strong
relationships between the Art Center and an expanding array of donors to
meet development goals.

·  Responsible for the development, implementation, and analysis of
overall fund-raising strategies, policies, and activities to ensure funding
for general operations, special projects, and events.

·  Works in conjunction with the president/executive director to
forecast the Art Center’s potential development revenues and to develop
long-range plans and strategies to successfully secure these revenues. Also
works with the President and Executive Director to create annual department
budget.  Manages budget for departmental activities.

·  Develops policies and procedures to ensure integrity of fund-raising
activities, records, and stewardship.

·  Responsible for education, training, and motivation of staff, board,
and volunteers to ensure that all fund-raising programs are consistent with
the overall mission, philosophy, and concepts of each program and service. 

·  Ensures timely and accurate internal and external reporting on
responsibilities of which he is charged.

·  Researches and keeps up-to-date on professional industry standards
and trends including participation in peer group associations, networking,
and collection of related documents and samples.
·  Supervises the Development Associate and Membership
Coordinator/Development Assistant and reports on budgets for
responsibilities of which he is charged.

·  In conjunction with and under the supervision of the President and
Executive Director, is responsible for providing development training to
board members serving on development committees and for identifying and
cultivating board members to serve in volunteer development positions.


Endowment, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Capital Campaign:
·  Works in conjunction with the President and Executive Director to
manage the Art Center’s capital, endowment, and planned giving efforts.
Researches, identifies, cultivates, and analyzes information on major donors
and planned givers in tandem with other development staff and
executive/board leadership.

·  Writes and/or reviews proposals as assigned.

·  Keeps up-to-date on planned giving developments and issues.
Networks with other professionals and attends appropriate
conferences/seminars.

·  Develops and implements strategy to reach endowment, capital, and
planned giving goals.

·  Recruits, trains, motivates, and recognizes volunteers within the
planned giving program to meet goals and objectives.


Annual Membership/Program Support Campaign:
·  Develops and implements strategy to reach annual membership/program
support goals.  Researches, identifies, cultivates, and analyzes information
regarding membership/program support donors.

·  Supervises the Membership Coordinator/Development Assistant to
ensure timely completion of solicitations, membership renewals, donor
acquisition mailings, gift processing, gift acknowledgments, and other
assigned tasks.


Development Publications:
·  Plans printed pieces for the Art Center’s development efforts,
including but not limited to:  Art Center annual report, member/major donor
news letters, planned giving publications, and membership/program support
solicitations.  Works with the Marketing Department in the development of
these publications.

·  Supervises Membership Coordinator/Development Assistant’s duties
related to development publications.

Electronic Development:
·  Plans, develops, and coordinates the Art Center’s fund-raising
efforts over the world wide web.  Works with the Technology Committee and/or
contracted service providers to ensure accuracy of development web pages.


Qualifications: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication
skills, good organizational and management skills, and be attentive to
detail.  Minimum of 5 years experience in development or equivalent field of
endeavor.  B.A. or B.S. in related field required.  Advanced/professional
degree in related field or equivalent experience helpful.  Knowledge of and
interest in the arts a plus.

Hours:          Minimum 40 hours per week.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
