"He's a travelin' man, made a lot of stops, all over
the world…"

The California Association of Museums reports that the
Partners in Tourism: Culture and Commerce commissioned
the Travel Industry Association of America to add a
series of questions to determine the length of time
that travelers extend their trips because of cultural
activities or events. Two thirds (65%) of U.S. adult
travelers (or 92.7 million) said they included a
cultural, arts, heritage or historic activity or event
while on a trip of 50 miles or more. 30% claim they
have visited a museum during a past-year trip. Other
cultural activities include live theatre (23%), art
galleries (21%), heritage or ethnic festivals (20%),
and concerts (19%). The percentage of travelers who
added one or more nights because of cultural
activities increased significantly from 1998 to
2000-from 49% to 57%. Other facts are available from
            >http://www.nasaa-arts.org/artworks/culttournewsfall2001.pdf.
