Florida State University invites applications for a director to guide
the Appleton Museum of Art as it enters a new stage of development.
Representing Florida State University and Central Florida Community
College, the Appleton Museum is a significant art and education center
for the community, its college and university constituents, the state,
and the region. The 65,000 square foot museum houses a permanent
collection of 19th-century European Art, Pre-Columbian Art, African Art,
Asian Art, and Antiquities along with a large rotating exhibition
gallery and education center. The director will be responsible for all
museum operations, management and development, supervision of a staff of
20+, and liaison with oversight committee, community members, faculty,
students, and donors. The director will have chief curatorial
responsibility. The director will be a strong leader who has the ability
to integrate a variety of programs and build consensus. The search
committee seeks candidates with an advanced degree in art history and
significant longstanding museum management and curatorial experience.
Preference will be given to those holding the doctorate. The director
assumes a faculty position at Florida State University with excellent
benefits. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and

Curator of Collections and Exhibitions

The Appleton Museum of Art
Ocala, Florida

Florida State University seeks an experienced curator to be an integral
part of an art and education team for the Appleton Museum of Art. As a
member of the director's senior staff, the curator will oversee
collections, develop changing exhibitions, and advise and participate in
the artistic direction of the museum. The curator will direct all
aspects of the curatorial department including the care, documentation,
research, conservation, and development of permanent collections which
include 19th-Century European Painting and Decorative Arts, African Art,
Pre-Columbian Art, Asian Art, and Antiquities. The curator may originate
exhibitions and will manage, schedule, and implement exhibitions and
public programs. Representing Florida State University and Central
Florida Community College, the Appleton Museum looks for applicants who
have excellent curatorial and writing skills and expertise in art
history. The successful candidate must have knowledge of art represented
in the permanent collections and major issues in contemporary art.
Candidates should have significant museum experience and possess an
advanced degree in art history, Ph.D. preferred. The curator of
collections and exhibitions assumes a faculty position at Florida State

 Director of Museum Relations

FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY seeks an energetic and experienced professional
to organize and direct all aspects of development, create major
fund-raising programs, and broaden and increase the museum audience for
the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Florida. The director of museum
relations will be a member of the museum director's senior staff and
will be responsible for identifying and soliciting private and corporate
donors and granting institutions in order to raise funds for operating
and program endowments, art acquisition, educational programming, and
special projects. The director of museum relations will develop and
supervise public relations, marketing, and special events. The
successful candidate will have a proven track record in fund raising,
preferably for museums, and significant experience in the field. The
search committee seeks an individual who is an enthusiastic team player
and who can handle multiple tasks. An advanced degree in arts
administration, business administration or related field is preferred;
appreciation of art and museums and their value to society is essential.

FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY seeks an experienced, innovative, and
enthusiastic director of education and outreach for the Appleton Museum
of Art in Ocala, Florida. The director of education and outreach will
develop and implement education programs for diverse communities
including K-12 school children, adults, families, special needs
populations, college and university students, and senior citizens. The
director of education and outreach will be a member of the museum
director's senior staff and will be an integral part of an art and
education team in a unique museum representing Florida State University
and Central Florida Community College. A large new addition to the
museum includes an education gallery, classrooms, workshops,
state-of-the-art computer lab, and library and will be the base of
operations for on-site and outreach programs. The successful candidate
must be dedicated to education in the arts and possess strong oral and
written communication skills and extensive knowledge of computer
technology. Qualifications include an advanced degree in art history,
museum studies or related field. Salary is competitive and commensurate
