Creating Educational Materials:Tips for Developing Engaging Programs
Wednesday, October 10, 2001, 2:30-5:00 p.m. at the California Academy
of Sciences in San Francisco, CA

Bert Bower of Teachers' Curriculum Institute (TCI) will introduce
strategies for creating innovative curricular materials. Attendees will
participate in "Body Language: The Human Form in Asian Art" a grade-6
school program developed with the Asian Art Museum, and then will utilize
some of the strategies in a curriculum development exercise.

A former social studies teacher, Bower began working with a group of
dedicated and innovative teachers from the Stanford Teacher Education
Program to create cutting-edge curricular materials and innovative teacher
workshops, and subsequently founded Teachers' Curriculum Institute (TCI) in
1989 with another teacher. Their mission was to turn history instruction
into a vital, interactive experience for students. Today more than 30,000
teachers use (TCI) materials daily, and each year 4,000 teachers are
trained to use these innovative methods.
