Our museum system includes natural history, science, and cultural history galleries; a large screen theater, planetarium, nature center, paleo research center, and three historic houses. We are rehabbing, renewing the exhibits in the Pink Palace itself—about 20,000 s/f. We are in search of institutions that have done something similar. We would love to pick their brain about the effects, economic and otherwise. Any leads much appreciated.

Dear Museum Listserv Colleague,
1. The Pink Palace Family of Museums' "Flagship" facility the Pink Palace Museum (174K s.f.) is in the process of renovating its main campus's original museum building, the Pink Palace (20K s.f.). Included in this renovation project is the installing of all new exhibits in the Pink Palace. Some of the new exhibits will be: the history of the Pink Palace Museum; the story of Clarence Saunders, the inventor of the first successful self-service grocery store, the Piggly Wiggly, and who had the vision to build the Pink Palace as his mansion, but lost his fortune before occupying the mansion, afterwards the mansion was then converted into a museum; recreated immersive environments -- a general store and an early Piggly Wiggly store; and a mechanically animated model big-top, three ring circus made in the 1930s (a favorite with museum visitors since the 1970s.
2. The museum system's senior management is interested in knowing if there are any other institutions, which have experienced a similar capital improvement project. And, if so, would such institutions be willing to discuss their project with the Pink Palace Family of Museum's senior management to discern: what were the effects to the museum; economic impact; attendance impact; and any other related issues.
3. Any contacts with such institutions will be very much appreciated.
Thank You and Best Wishes,
Wesley
