Subject: An American Quilt

My fellow friends,

On this National Day of Remembrance, I want to start an American
Quilt... a memorial for those who perished, an honorarium for the heroes
who helped save lives, and a reminder for those of us who feel so
helpless. Please forward this message to as many people as you can, so
this quilt will be a substantial memorial. I'm ready to find the
necessary people who will help me put it together, and I am dedicated to
making sure every piece of the quilt will be accounted for. There is no
charge at all to be a part. Just follow these four steps if you'd like
to be a part.

Here's how it works:

 1. Take a piece of material (any kind of material like an old cotton
tshirt, a piece of leather or satin, a piece of suede or silk, whatever
you can get your hands on, preferably red, white or blue material)
 2. Cut it down to 8" by 8" (that's 20.32 centimeters by 20.32
 centimeters for my international friends)
 3. Paint, Draw, Cut, Sew whatever message you'd like to put on your
square. Be as simple or as complex as you'd like. Teachers can make
it a class project for their students, companies can encourage their
employees to participate, parents can make it a family project, etc. The
message can be to the people who perished, words of hope, a simple icon
of peace or love, whatever you're feeling.
 4. Send your square to the following address:

An American Quilt
330 West Olympic Place #205
Seattle, WA 98119
