Associate Registrar, Rights and Reproductions

Manages the Museum's portfolio of reproduction rights for objects in the collection; records and tracks rights belonging to outside rights holders as well as permissions and licenses granted to the Museum by those rights holders.  Works with Chief Registrar to draft and develop policies for managing rights and monitors compliance.  Liaises with internal image users and communicates related policies and procedures to them.  Works with the curatorial departments to document retrospective information regarding rights to reproduce objects in the collection. Maintains rights documentation, both hard-copy and electronic.  Consults as appropriate with the Getty Trust Legal Department on rights questions.  Oversees work of Assistant Registrar for Rights and Reproductions in supplying media and granting rights to reproduce Getty images to external image users. 

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in art history, museum studies or a related field required.  Must have knowledge of rights issues in museum collections and copyright law, particularly with regard to the work of 20th century photographers.  Experience with database systems, Windows-based software and using the Internet for research.  3 -5 years of Museum experience required. Must have good written, verbal and interpersonal skills.  Diplomacy, discretion and good judgment required.  Excellent organizational skills.  Previous supervisory experience preferred.  Salary range starts at $38,700.  Salary commensurate with experience.
