Hello all,

Our research librarian has received a request from a
publishing company for transcripts of President
McKinley's letters to his wife Ida. They do not want
reproductions of the originals, but the text of the
letters in their entirety.

Does anyone out there charge a fee for publishing this
kind of archival material? Our policies aren't clear
on this matter. We do have a reproduction fee and a
copyright agreement fee above and beyond that if
photographs are going to be used in a publication. We
also have a $20/hour research fee for requests that
our librarian or research staff has to handle. But
we're not sure what to charge for this type of
request.

The request was made via telephone, so the researcher
is not local and will not be coming to view the
letters himself.

Any help you can offer will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Kim Kenney
