Kathy,

It all depends on what you're interested in seeing. I did a self guided tour
of Pompeii, but bought a tour book before entering (which I greatly
recommend). It was great fun to wander through and definitely not a place to
go through quickly. However, I'm sure that I would have gotten more out of a
guided tour.

Sorrento is beautiful and definitely a place that I would recommend, though
while you're down there I wouldn't miss the Amalfi coast, which is GORGEOUS!

As for the Museum and Naples, I know people who really like the city, but I
didn't spend much time there and wasn't as thrilled about it as Sorrento and
the Amalfi Coast (though I really went from train to subway to museum and
back). The museum was interesting, especially if you are into archaeological
artefacts and lots of sculpture (Greek, Roman, Etruscan, Egyptian). Everyone
told me that I had to see the museum because it would enable me to see all the
items that had been removed from Pompeii, as the actual sites are pretty bare
of art and artefacts. But nothing beats seeing Pompeii in person--wandering
through the actual remains of the city, with Mt. Vesuvius looming in the
background. I would probably chose Pompeii and Sorrento. But that's just my
opinion.

Lauren
