About the Indiana Historical Society
The Indiana Historical Society is seeking candidates for the full-time
position of director, educational and public programming.  Founded in 1830
and located in Indianapolis, the Society is a private, independent,
nonprofit membership organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, and
promoting Indiana's history.    For more information about IHS, visit our

About the position
The director, educational and public programming is responsible for
creating, implementing, and evaluating a menu of educational experiences in
Indiana history for all ages, both on and off site.  A complete job
description is available upon request.  Essential knowledge, abilities, and
skills:  An understanding of educational theories and practices as they
apply to students of all ages, economic backgrounds, religions,
nationalities, and races.  Experience in teaching social studies or
equivalent subject matter helpful as is knowledge of Indiana history and the
state's school systems.  Proven experience in creative programming for all
ages as well as strong communication and organizational skills.  Comfortable
with computer use and applications in education.   High regard for history,
the historical profession, and the IHS mission.  Willingness and ability to
travel.  Required:  Master's degree in appropriate related field.  At least
five years experience producing a variety of education programs.

Pay and benefits
The salary range for this position starts in the mid-$30's; pay offered will
be commensurate with experience and skills.  IHS offers an excellent

with TIAA-CREF; TDAs; EAP, and flexible benefits plus generous vacation and
sick leave.  Day care and parking available nearby.
