Ewwh! Poor books! You are right about the Charcoal, be sure to elevate the

book so it is not in direct contact. I like those Rubbermaid containers and

a roast rack. Smoke had the extra icky factor of being a bit "sticky" (the

yellow tar you see on the windows of really smoky dives.) for this I would

try Absorene. It is available in art supply stores sometimes and also

To the List:



Does anyone have experience with removing the smell of cigarette smoke from

books?  The books have come from a home of heavy smokers and the odor is

over powering.  I suspect that the books can be placed in a plastic tub

along with charcoal and the odors will be drawn away.  I am helping a

small, local public library with the books they lend out- so these are not

artifacts in a museum – but I image others have run into this sort of

issue.
