The following message is being cross-posted to MUSEUM-L, ARLIS-L, and
VRA-L, with apologies for any duplicate copies you may receive as a
result.

Dear colleagues:

I'm trying to identify cultural heritage information sources in
Southern California that are accessible via networks, and would be
very grateful to receive your recommendations. I've had limited
success using the available resources, including various network
navigator search engines. The results have been underwhelming.

To define my terms:

"Cultural heritage information sources": please interpret broadly,
from the obvious (museums, libraries, archives) to the elusive
(corporate art collections? theater consortia?). Any resource in the
arts and humanities is of interest, whether non-profit or commercial.
Examples:
1. gopher://latino.sscnet.ucla.edu:70/
The Latino Studies gopher at UCLA
2. http://bookweb.cwis.uci.edu:8042/AdamsHome.html
The "Ansel Adams: Fiat Lux" exhibition at UC Irvine
3. http://www.catalog.com/mm/acad/home.html
The Cultural & Arts Program documents for the Los Angeles
Metro Rail Red Line Extension into East Los Angeles

"Accessible via networks": gophers, web sites, etc. Not just sites
with e-mail capability.

"Southern California": the area roughly encompassed by Santa Barbara
(north), Palm Springs (east), and San Diego (south).

Please respond privately to [log in to unmask]; I'll be happy to post
summaries to the lists if people are interested.

Many thanks for your help.
