Hampton Plantation State Historic Site Interpreter (Position Number 055719)

The South Carolina State Park Service seeks applications for Hampton
Plantation State Historic Site Interpreter position.  Hampton Plantation is
a 337-acre historic property located 35 miles northeast of Charleston,
South Carolina.  The centerpiece of the site is an unfurnished, ca. 1750
rice plantation mansion listed as a National Historic Landmark.

Job Purpose:
Plans thematic interpretive services focusing on the Rutledge, Horry, and
Pinckney families, plantation life, African Americans, and architecture at
this state-owned historic house museum.  Plans and conducts tours,
programs, workshops, field trips and activities for the park visitors
through personal contact, oral and written communication, and interpretive
exhibits.  Promotes the park, the park system and the state.  Performs
curatorial duties including object care, registration, housekeeping, and
research.  Also assists with preservation of historic structures and
landscapes as needed.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and two years
experience in Interpretation, Public History, or the Museum Field. Salary
range is $21,679-$40,108. (On-site three bedroom newly constructed house
provided).
