I and a few others in a UK town are investigating the possibility of
starting a folk museum to provided:
1. a community facility
2. a tourist attraction
We have identified a site which is a medieval warehouse, registered ancient
monument and currently for sale or lease. The building will need money
spending on it.
We believe we can source artifacts to display including some which are
surplus to neighboring museums and relevant to our town.
Grants are thought to be available form the EEC etc. up to 50% of the cost
of the project provided the community provides the rest.
We need to prepare a feasibility plan.
If the project proceeds I think we ought to set up a registered charity as
the legal entity to run the museum.
We would welcome any advice and comments ( no matter how general) from
those who work in existing museums and especially from those who may have
been involved in setting one up from scratch.
