The North Carolina Transportation Museum has and displays the NC "40 and 8" car.  It was restored by the 40 and 8 society including the shields.  We have some of the data on the restoration, including vendors.

You may want to contact the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. (Ask for
Charles Bennett.) I think the Palace was involved with restoration of a
boxcar that was a gift of France to each state in the United states
following WW2, but I cannot remember what those cras were called.
