We use Orvus soap which I believe is recommended by conservators. Here is some product information:

This product is highly recommended for cleaning fine textiles and rugs. Available in powder form, it is mixed at a concentration of approximately 1% (1 tbsp. per gallon of water, for instance) and is soluble in both hot and cold water. It is free rinsing in either as well. It is a neutral pH synthetic detergent which will remove common dirt and most stains. Wash and rinse several times for greatest effectiveness. Orvus is anionic, contains no phosphorus, and is completely biodegradable. Additionally, Orvus performs well as an emulsifier and is a fine wetting and dispersing agent.

I find that you can only wash gloves once or twice before disposing. Nitrile gloves maybe more cost effective.
