Magge who is thinking of a career change,
Just a couple of hints:
Be ready to take a substantial cut in pay from a business job to a museum job.
If you work for a private, not- for- profit, be prepared for a differant
climate of board interaction and management.
You might want to take a 3 day workshop from AASLH - American Association for
State and Local History to get a sense of the issues and the techniques of
museum work.
You might also continue to immerse yourself in an organization or two by
volunteering or working as an affordable consultant.
If you really think its for you, consider getting a masters degree in history
museum studies or museum education. Cooperstown Graduate Program in History
Museum Studies is a good generalist program with a solid track record of over
20 years and a very active and supportive alumni association. (good for job
connections)
