As one of the first 100 BSA (Business Strengthening America) initiative
members, my organization 'The Center for Continuity and Recovery Advice'
is working (on a volunteer basis) with local Florida schools to bring
cultural activities to the schools.

I understand there is funding available for schools to use for purposes
such as visiting museums etc. and was informed that often the
information will be directed to an already overwhelmed school principal
vs. the art, history, other staff would may be more likely to follow-up
and coordinate such trips. Find out who the best contact would be for
the schools you're coordinating with. You may want to work with the
person responsible for school partnerships with local businesses as well
as the PTA and individual staff positions relevant to your museum
specialty.

My suggestion would be to handle this at a higher level and supplement
your activities with individual schools by initiating discussions with
the local school district as well as state governing bodies. Check with
your state museum association and find out what other museums in your
state are doing.

Best,

Laura Mallet

Subject: marketing to schools

Can anyone share the details of any successful marketing initiatives
that
helped your museum increase school group visitation and...

is your school marketing done with or without a full-time person with
primary responsibility for direct contact and liaison with schools (in
other
words...
someone making "sales calls" on schools and scheduling school visits on
an
annual contract basis?

Thanks for your input!
