Dear Susan;

The Terra Museum of American Art, located on North Michigan Avenue, Chicago has a strict policy of not allowing food or drink in the galleries. We do have a space on the second floor, outside the galleries, that is used for openings. The space also serves as an orientation space and may have photographic material and text -not artwork- on display. During openings or other events with food, we clearly post signs at the entrance to the galleries that food and drink is not allowed.

I hope this helps with your quest.

My Gala Ball committee doesn't understand why I do not want to permit eating
and drinking in the permanent and temporary galleries of our new museum
opening this Fall. I have told them that this is against museum standard
practice and that if we allowed it, may hurt our chances for accreditation,
Smithsonian affiliateship, and traveling exhibitions. Their response to me
is that if The Downtown Chicago Museums can do it, why can't we?

Does anybody have any other suggestions as to how I can convince them that
this is not the route to go.
