As a researcher who has been hit with the high fees for publication
rights for images borrowed from museum collections and/or library archives,
I would hope that you might think about the effect your fees will have on
the user. I have had to decide against using an image from a particular
museum even though the image was the best example for my book chapter, but
the high fees made the piece less desirable as others.
There are some institutions which see such fees (use and/or
reproduction fees) as a means of income for the institution. there are
others that see reproduction as a service to the user and these
institutions often pass on only their direct cost to the user (of course,
these are my favorite collections).
I think your decision depends upon whether you want to maximize the
viewing/sharing of your collection with the public, of course, with a
proper credit line or whether this is not important to your mission.

 Greetings, fellow Listers!

I work in a special collections library that provides digital images of
collection materials for patrons, both within and without the University.
We are in the process of revising our schedule of fees, and I was wondering
if I could harvest some suggestions from your collective fields of
experience. I am specifically seeking suggestions for the following:

 * Low resolution scans (<=100dpi), per image * High-resolution scans (>100
dpi), per image * Digital camera imaging, per image * CD delivery of images
(burning images to CD-ROM) * E-mail delivery of images (providing images
via a temporary website) * Image manipulation (compesation for scratches to
original, cropping, anything beyond simple scanning or photographing of
material), per hour, one-hour min.

Also, do you offer discounts for employees of your institution?

Any suggestion you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated. This
includes a schedule of fees from your institution via e-mail, attachment or
URL, or suggestions that will further my research.

 Thanks in advance.
