Assistant Exhibitions Manager
Queens Library Gallery
Jamaica, NY

Excellent opportunity to learn all aspects of non-profit gallery management
in a growing, fast-paced gallery environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with all aspects of creating, planning, designing and installing
exhibits.  Recruits, schedules, and conducts class visits and other
exhibition tours.  Works with other Library staff to plan and coordinate
installation, educational materials, and printed collateral materials.
Maintains specific responsibility for gallery office management, facilities,
storage, and supply management.  Suggests and conducts other educational
programs.  Supervises Gallery volunteers and interns.  Assumes duties of
Exhibitions Manager in his/her absence.  Performs other duties as required.
Schedule may include some Saturdays and evenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies,
or related field is required.  Administrative experience in an office
environment.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.  Knowledge of art and
art history.  Must be motivated, organized, creative team-player.  Excellent
oral, written, communication, and presentation skills.  Must be able to
apply time management principles to complete multiple projects with
competing deadlines.

ABOUT THE GALLERY

Established in 1995, the Queens Library Gallery is an adjunct to the Queens
Borough Public Library, and is located in the Central Library, 89-11 Merrick
Boulevard, Jamaica, New York.  The Gallery hosts four exhibitions per year,
including two museum-quality traveling exhibitions that explore a range of
subjects including art, history, and ethnic culture; one traveling
children's exhibit each summer; and one major original exhibition that may
include a symposium and/or major publication.   Original exhibitions include
Visible Traces:  Rare Books and Special Collections from the National
Library of China, on view during Winter 2000, and the upcoming exhibition A
Woman's Place:  Contemporary Identities of the South Asian Diaspora,
scheduled for Winter 2002.  The Gallery is committed to a variety of arts
