Dear Ms. Brown:

I am not sure if I am understanding you correctly, we do offer conservators
to do a general assessment survey or general needs survey.  This would
involve having a conservator visit your museum for two days and survey your
collections: how they are stored, how they are exhibited, what type of
environment they are housed in, policies for security of the collections,
etc.  After the visit, the conservator will work with you in developing a
report.  This report will be useful to your organization for two reasons.
First, it will provide an outline for short, mid, and long term goals for
preservation of the collections.  Secondly, it will provide a tool by which
to obtain funding to have these goals completed.  Unfortunately, the cost of
a survey is about $3000.00.  We offer a subsidized survey program in which
this survey is offered at a cost of $350.00.  The next time this program will
be available will be in 2002.  Also there are various funding institutions
which offer funds for these surveys.  If you would like, I can research some
possible funding sources for your area.  I hope this information helps, and
