The Newell D. Goff Institute for Ingenuity & Enterprise Studies invites
applications for the 2003 Goff Fellowships, research grants which address
issues related to creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, and invention.
These short-term research grants provide an honorarium of $500 and a stipend
for expenses up to $2000. In keeping with the mission of the Goff Institute,
preference will be given to researchers addressing critical and historical
issues related to creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, and invention.
Special consideration will be given to topics related, in whole or part, to
Rhode Island.

The Newell D. Goff Institute for Ingenuity & Enterprise Studies, a
department of the Rhode Island Historical Society, is a research and
education center dedicated to fostering the study of creativity,
entrepreneurship, innovation, and invention in business, technology, and
related fields. This mission supports research that examines the creative
responses of individuals and organizations to the challenges of change. The
Institute encourages interdisciplinary study that leads to a broad
understanding of business, industry and technology.
The extensive collections of the Rhode Island Historical Society - available
to Goff Fellows - contain artifacts and records from the financial,
manufacturing, retail, and transportation industries. Located in Providence,
the Goff Institute can also assist researchers who wish to work at any of
the fourteen special collection libraries in Rhode Island, and offers
opportunities to pursue regional study in Southern New England.

Applications, available on the web at www.rihs.org, must be postmarked by
Friday, February 21, 2003.
Notification of Awards will be made by Friday, March 28, 2003.
