POSITION: Museum Educator,DS-1712-9/11

LOCATION: Office of Museum Programs
          Division of Education
          Washington, D.C.

SALARY (commensurate with experience): DS-9:  $35,310 - $45,900 per annum
DS-11: $42,724 - $55,541 per annum

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: This is a Donated, Full-time, Permanent Appointment
with Benefits.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants must be willing to work some evenings
and weekends.  Position may require some travel.

This is a Federal Agency.  Any former Federal employee who received a
voluntary separation incentive (buyout), must repay the full amount of it
if re-employed under any type of appointment, or under a personal services
contract, within five (5) years after separation with a buyout.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The incumbent serves as an Educator responsible for
the design development and implementation of a full program of educational
activities for student and adult group visitors. Designs, conducts and
models pre-and post-visit programs. Develops, conducts and models
instructional tours that present the history of the Holocaust.  Develops
instructional presentations for on-site programming workshops, conferences
and meetings.  Creates educational resources for on-site programming and
exhibitions.  These include informational brochures, program announcement
classroom lesson plans, training material, teaching guides to exhibitions,
etc.  Develops and implements training programs for Museum staff, and
others as necessary.  Assists with a variety of Division/Museum projects
and activities.  Work may involve national outreach and traveling
exhibitions.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  At the DS-11 level, the applicant must
posses one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DS-9 level.  At
the DS-9 level, the applicant must possess one year of specialized
experience equivalent to the DS-7 level.  Specialized experience is
experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of
the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.  Examples
of qualifying specialized experience include:

·         Teaching or instruction in an adult education program, middle or
secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial
establishment in the appropriate fields(s)
·         Supervising or administering a training program.
·         Development or review of training/course materials, aids,
devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
·         Work in the occupation or subject matter field of the position to
be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KASOCS):

1.     Knowledge of the methods and techniques of instruction, training or
education obtained through a background in museum education or other
learning centers, or classroom instruction in a middle or secondary school,
or experience developing and delivering presentations to student and adult
groups.

2.     Knowledge of current educational developments and practices to
advise and consult with educators, teachers and administrators and develop
program curricula and education resources.

3.     Familiarity with Holocaust history to be able to develop educational
resources and to design and present programming to inform audiences about
the subject of exhibitions.

4.      Ability to communicate effectively, make oral and written
presentations and recommendations, and develop materials and resources,
which are clear, timely, and convey appropriate information.
