I did a public/members' lecture on caring for textiles when I was at the San
Diego Museum of Man. The administration did it as a brown bag lunch for
free. We had about 100 people if I recall correctly. The how-to lecture was
also published in the museum's monthly newsletter.

Our success was an increased interest in the textile exhibit we were
running, which I can only assume resulted in some new memberships. As far as
the staff, docents, interns, and donors were concerned, their object
handling skills improved, as well as their respect for the objects in the
museum and their own collections.

There were no challenges involved.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Public Collection Care Workshops

Hi all,

We are considering doing a series of workshops for the public on the best
ways to care for their personal collections. Has anyway tried this before? I

searched the archive but didn't come across anything...

Our target would be senior centers, and we would offer to do the workshop at

their location or here at our facility. We were thinking of four different
'topics'
to offer: papers/photos; clothing/textiles; furniture; silver.

If you have done something like this before, what was your pricing
structure?
What was your attendance like? What were your successes and your
challenges?

Thanks for the help!
