In avoiding "eye pollution," the signage also needs to be wary of the other
extreme: blending too much with the displayed structures, so that the
ingenuous visitor might not be prompted to recognize the distinction between
"real" and "recreated."

At the Castello Sforzesco in Milan (Italy), for example, it was decided to
create informational and directional signage which used modern materials,
and which allowed these materials to express their modernity (for example,
clean lines without "in style" framing elements, etc.), but also to use
colors drawn from the structure and its collections (illustrations of which
appeared on the signage) in order to find a balanced middle road between
aesthetic harmony and presentational honesty.

All the best,

Star
