Another jail museum is the Huron Hisotuic Gaol  in Goderich, Ontario. It falls
under the umbrella of the Huron County Museum and is quite an interesting
place. It was built in 1839-42 and was one of only 6 built by the architect
(whose name I have forgotten) in the pan-optic style; that is with a central,
octagonally shaped building with cell block wings extending out from this
central block. Thisi style made it unnecessary for  guards to actually enter
the blocks to check on prisoners because they could be seen by looking through
the doors. (It is a large building but was built to accomodate a maximum of 20
prisoners).

The gaol is open seasonally or by appointment with the Huron County Museum and
