With the exception of situations where visitors are able and willing to
sit down for several minutes, it's tough to convey the depth of the
information it sounds like you have in a kiosk situation.

A possible solution might be to use several simpler interactives that
break down the history into phases and imbed the interactives into a
graphic timeline along a wall. This allows people to navigate "time"
physically , allows multiple users, keeps traffic moving, and makes
the actual interaction of each kiosk more digestable.
