Yes, you are on to something when you say that just because someone
charges a fee you then put them on your fee list; but I suppose you have
to make a decision.  Either put up with it, or quietly go away, or put
them on your list!  Ha!  Of course a decision like this should encompass
the director and any other decision-maker involved in policy-making.
This does get complicated.  Suzanne at the New Mexico Museum of Natural
History in Albuquerque told me about a recent loan fee they charged a
borrower, and I thought about travelling exhibitions, which just slipped
my mind.  Some of us have organized exhibitions which we have been able
to lend out for a slight fee; we recently did this with a past documents
exhibition, but I never tied it to the lone item (no pun intended) we
would receive.  I guess travelling exhibits are a whole other ball game.
