Maggie O'Toole and others,

There are a number of web sites that have postings of jobs for museum
professionals. The ALHFAM web page, for example, has postings of "Jobs for
Living History Specialists." You should also be aware that more and more
museums are posting position openings and application instructions right on
their web sites.

On the Mystic Seaport web site, for example, in the "Employment
Opportunities" section, there are presently full-time postings for a
Cataloguer in the Film and Video division, a "manager of intellectual
property," an administrative assistant in the Development department, a
post-doctoral teaching fellowship in maritime history, a library assistant,
security officers, carpenters, etc.

Another example, Colonial Williamsburg; employment oportunities (dated Dec.
8) posted on the web site include: accounting clerk, conference services
manager, retail manager, two director level jobs in development, a tailor
(to work in costume) and George Washington (interpreter), among many others.

These may not be the jobs of your dreams, but it would seem that there are
some opportunities, and the information is out there. Whether you're
willing to move for a $20,000/year job is perhaps the bigger question.
